Nigel Cooke

My studio tutor told me an artist who called Nigel Cooke.
He was born in Manchester in 1973 and he lives and works in England now.
Why he recommended him to me is his aware of the space in his painting is similar to me.
In his painting, he draw a wall and in front of wall he is drawing ground. Also there is a line of the light.
Maybe the first impression, it's looks landscape and the wall looks clouded sky and the line also helps to see its landscape, but when you see the sky you recornize its wall and suddenly the painting looks wall. So he combined two different space in one picture. Also he has various of different approaches to make these tricks of the eye.

Also for me, I combined some pictures in one painting as layers.
and it maybe looks different depends where people see in the part of the painting.

also I found his other works and its really interesting.

Len Lye: Swinging the Lambeth Walk

Today I saw some movie which made by Len Lye.
It was amazing and really interesting.
My studio tutor told me the artist for my work, because he is using layer and the atomosphere is quite similer to my work.
its looks like microgram of the cell.

Gabriel Orozco

Last weekend I went to see an exhibition of Gabriel Orozco at Tate modern.
It was first time to see his work, and it was so great.
His works are really experimental and even its photograph, I can see or feel as physical feeling.
He is doing really simple things but it really unique and the approaches.

Especially I like his photography.
The photograph witch were in the exhibition, he found accidents in a daily life.
it looks simple as well but, all of them are really beautiful and there is suprizing in the photograh. and it sometime difficult to reconize to understand what is in the photograph.

I guess he try to find a connection and similarity between things.
First impression to see the picture, it looks normal, but when you continue to see it, recornize it is unusual situation or funny situation.

LAtutorial

Today I had a ALtutorial with Roger and I could have really nice talk and time.
He was really nice person and have really nice humor.
Actually before we did the tutorial, I got afraid about the tutorial because I heard the tutorial is quite important and it's different from normal tutorial.
Also recently I've lost my confidence and I was seriously thinking I'm not suitable person to be an artist, and I completely lost my way.
However, he told me every artist have a slump and loose their confidence, but I shouldn't think about to serious.
When i heard it, my feeling suddenly become light and it relieves me so much.
Also he told me my work is getting better and better, so keep going to do the work.
Then we talked more other thing after, then finally he said me he will come to my space to see the progress of my work.
Every his word give me a confidence and energy to work.
It was so nice oppotunity to talk with him and pleased about that I could meet him.
Hope I can meet him again...

:(

I've got cold since Tuesday evening.
I still have got a fiver but it's getting better so I did some research for next essay.
I decided to write about memory which is deeply connected to my work.

The theme is quite difficult to analyze and bit expanded.
Maybe it's going to be hard to write about it, because I haven't been able to analyze my work so.

Vienna 2nd day

In the 2nd day, I went to Palace of Schonbrunn.
After that, I went to Austrian National Gallery, then I saw whole exhibition. There were some of Klimt's painting and some his related artist's works something like Egon Sciele. Hi is also my favorite artist so I was really impressed. Also in the other exhibition, there were some of Andy Wohol's works, monet, Francis Bacon and so many famous art works.

There were photograph of Klimt's Medicine and Philosophy as large as life.
It was so amazing even it is not real, because when I saw these paintings on a book I couldn't imagine the life size. I was so surprised that the paintings were so big.

During I was looking around the exhibition, I remembered that there is also his most famous painting 'Kiss' in somewhere else in Vienna, so I searched on my iPhone and I went to palace of Belvedere.

It was further from the National Gallery, but I thought 'I can't go back unless I saw 'The Kiss'!!!' so I went to there. When I saw it, I couldn't think anything and I couldn't say anything. It was so beautiful and impressive. Also the scale was bigger than I imagined. It was most memorable moment in my life I think. I can not forget the time that I was standing in front of 'The Kiss' and Vienna. I definitely want to come back again.

In the end, we drunk a beer at airport:)
